Children & Jewellery - Safety Guidelines
We know how fun it is to shop for jewellery, however, jewellery can pose a significant safety risk to small children. Please follow our best practices below.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS
- There is a real risk of children under 4 years of age putting jewellery in their mouth and choking. Please do not allow a child under 4 years of age to wear any of our jewellery, and always keep our jewellery out of their reach.
- If your child is over 4 years of age but still puts non-food items in their mouth, we do not recommend our jewellery. Please keep it out of their reach.
- Your child’s jewellery will need to be replaced as they grow. Please do not allow your child to wear an item that is too small for them.
CHILDREN'S EARRINGS
- Some of our earrings are designed for children who are 4 years of age or older.
- All of our earrings pose a choking risk to children under 4 years of age. Do not allow them to wear, and please keep them out of reach of that age group.
- Take care when fitting butterfly backs onto your child's earrings. Earrings that are worn too tight may become embedded in the earlobe or cause other pressure damage.
- Our children’s earrings are not suitable until the initial piercing has fully healed.
- Earrings should be removed, cleaned, and your child's lobes inspected frequently to help prevent infection and pressure damage.
- Sterling silver and 9ct gold are generally well tolerated, but that tolerance is not universal - discontinue wear immediately if any skin irritation occurs.
CHILDREN'S BRACELETS
- Our children's bracelets are designed for children 4 years of age or older, who no longer put non-food items in their mouth - otherwise they pose a choking risk.
- They are designed to be worn for brief periods only.
- Ensure the bracelet fits comfortably without being too tight or too loose.
- Inspect skin around the bracelet regularly for pressure damage.
- Sterling silver and 9ct gold are generally well tolerated, but that tolerance is not universal - discontinue wear immediately if any skin irritation occurs.
